Preparing for Your Mammogram
- Schedule Your Appointment: Try to schedule your mammogram for one week after your period, when your breasts are least likely to be tender.
- Avoid Certain Products: On the day of your mammogram, avoid using deodorants, antiperspirants, powders, lotions, or perfumes under your arms or on your breasts. These can appear as white spots on the X-ray.
- Inform Us: Let us know if you have any breast symptoms or problems, have had previous mammograms, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
What to Expect During the Mammogram
During the mammogram, you will stand in front of a special X-ray machine. Your breast will be placed on a clear plate, and another plate will firmly press down on your breast from above. The plates will flatten the breast to get a clear picture. You may feel some pressure, but the procedure usually takes only a few minutes.
